The Arizona Cardinals seem to have their sights set on drafting Marvin Harrison Jr. in the 2024 NFL Draft, and one of the players who has already expressed his excitement is their offensive lineman, DJ Humphries.
During his recent appearance with the NetWorth with Justin Pugh podcast, the one-time Pro Bowler went so far as to say that Marvin Harrison Jr. could be the “missing piece” that the team needs to be competitive in the NFC West in 2024.
“Adding him to the cast that we already have, it’s like we need another piece here,” said Humphries. “I don’t know how else you can do it unless it was something that was like, ‘we traded this for this’, and we got so much capital for the pick. But it’s too easy to miss.”
Marvin Harrison Jr. is considered the top wideout in this year’s draft class. The last time the Arizona Cardinals drafted a wide receiver in the first round was in 2004. At the time, they picked Larry Fitzgerald, who played in the NFL for 17 years, catching 1,432 passes for 17,492 receiving yards and 121 touchdowns.
“That’s easy. We know who we need to draft. His dad’s a Hall of Famer,” Humphries added about Harrison Jr.
The Arizona Cardinals face a huge caveat about drafting Marvin Harrison Jr.
In an ideal world, Marvin Harrison Jr. would fall into the laps of the Arizona Cardinals in the 2024 NFL Draft. But since they have the No. 4 pick, there’s a chance that the Ohio State standout might get picked within the Top 3.
The Chicago Bears and the Washington Commanders, who own the first two picks, are going to select their quarterbacks. But the New England Patriots, who have the third overall pick, might opt to draft Marvin Harrison Jr. instead of someone like Drake Maye.
If they miss out on Harrison Jr., it’s not the end of the world for the Arizona Cardinals since Rome Odunze and Malik Nabers are still available for selection by then. Either way, Arizona should be able to pick a ready-made prospect that can immediately help the team starting next season.
