The Texas Longhorns finished with an 11-1 record during the 2024 regular season in college football. Texas lost to the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship Game, but the Longhorns were able to get to the college football playoffs semifinals once again before losing to the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Texas will open up the 2025 season in Columbus, Ohio, against the Buckeyes. With Texas falling short once again in the college football playoffs semifinals, it will be interesting to see if they are able to text the next step in 2025 with Arch Manning at quarterback instead of Quinn Ewers. In 2023, the Longhorns lost to the Washington Huskies. Head coach Steve Sarkisian is going to have hefty expectations upon his college football program for the 2025 season.
College Football Insider Ranks the Texas Longhorns Number 2 After Spring Ball Sessions
Brandon Marcello of CBS Sports ranked his Top 25 teams in the nation after spring ball sessions. With the Buckeyes being ranked number one, he has Texas being ranked number two in the nation. There is a chance that there Week 1 game in 2025 could be a 2 vs 1 matchup. Marcello said of the Longhorns being ranked second in his Top 25 standings after spring ball,
“Arch Madness has arrived. Arch Manning takes over at quarterback to lead one of the most talented rosters in the sport, but the mass reloads along the offensive and defensive lines do give us pause. One starter returns on the offensive line, and the defensive line must reload at defensive tackle for a second straight year. To build depth, the Longhorns’ transfer portal haul comprised five defensive tackles. Otherwise, the roster is stacked with championship-caliber players ready to contend for a national title. Odds: +650”
Texas is another team who lost a ton of talent to the NFL after the 2024 college football season. This will be Sarkisian’s fifth season with the football program. The Longhorns have not won a national title since the 2005 season when Mack Brown was the head coach and Vince Young was the quarterback of the program then. Manning has a chance to put this program into galore if he can lead Texas to a national championship this upcoming college football season.
