The Minnesota Vikings surprised people as they released running back Alexander Mattison earlier today. This is the second consecutive season that the team has released their leading running back. Mattison has proven to be a good back as he had 180 carries for 700 yards (3.9 yard per attempt) but failed to run in a touchdown.
However, he was able to be a threat in the passing game with 30 receptions for 192 yards (6.4 yards per catch) with three touchdown catches. But now that he is an unrestricted free agent, what teams are going to want to take a chance on the 25-year-old running back?
Alexander Mattison Team #1: Tennessee Titans
With it looking like the Tennessee Titans are moving on from running back Derrick Henry, Mattison could slide with the team and really make things interesting for this young offensive team. Pairing him with Tyjae Spears and Hassan Haskins makes it intriguing. He also could be a solid pass-catcher out of the backfield and make the Titans offense look a lot better.
Life is going to be extremely different without King Henry but that is one minor piece they can add to replace him.
Alexander Mattison Team #2: New England Patriots
The New England Patriots do not have much offensive talent on the roster and were only able to average 95.7 rushing yards per game last season. With Ezekiel Elliott currently an unrestricted free agent, this makes a lot of sense to add him to the roster. Mattison could be a strong 1-2 punch with Rhomandre Stevenson in the backfield and help make coach Jerod Mayo’s life a little easier in his first year as head coach.
Alexander Mattison Team #3: Philadelphia Eagles
With both D’Andre Swift and Boston Scott officially free agents, the Philadelphia Eagles need a running back who is affordable. Mattison could be paired with Kenneth Gainwell and Tyrion Davis-Price and create an interesting dynamic in the backfield. He could really help the offense continue to have a threat without having the big name or salary cap implications.
