The Alabama football program will embark on a new chapter next season, one without six-time champion Nick Saban patrolling the sideline after 17 seasons. The Kalen DeBoer era will start next fall, with Saban’s successor tasked with keeping the Crimson Tide’s success afloat. DeBoer brought a healthy amount of his staff from Washington to Tuscaloosa. However, offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb has recently dipped for the Seattle Seahawks, opening the door for tight ends coach Nick Sheridan to take over play-calling duties. FanDuel Sportsbook has responded to the nearest coaching shakeup, dropping Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe’s odds of winning the Heisman Trophy Award (+850 to +1200) in their newest update.

Alongside Milroe, only Oklahoma’s Jackson Arnold has seen their Heisman Trophy odds dip following FanDuel’s pre-spring release. Meanwhile, new Ohio State quarterback Will Howard saw his odds jump from +1500 to +1000.
Alabama Crimson Tide Quarterback Jalen Milroe: Eyeing Heisman Trophy Award
With the departure of former Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young to the NFL, Jalen Milroe took over for the Alabama football program in 2023. After a subpar start to the season, including a temporary benching in mid-September, Milroe regained his mojo, mainly during the final stretch. The dual-threat quarterback accounted for 11 touchdowns across his team’s last three regular season games, including a heroic effort against the Auburn Tigers on the road. Milroe hit receiver Isaiah Bond on a 31-yard touchdown on fourth-and-goal with 32 seconds remaining to lift his team to victory.
The Katy, Texas native again shined in the SEC Championship, collecting two touchdowns in a win, helping punch the Crimson Tide’s ticket to the College Football Playoff. However, Milroe’s success hit an abrupt halt in his team’s clash with the Michigan Wolverines during the first round of the CFP. He went 16 of 23 for 116 yards and no scores in a 27-20 overtime loss against the eventual national champs. He also lost a fumble.
Alabama Football: Starting Kalen DeBoer Era Next Fall
After 17 years and six championships, head coach Nick Saban is out as frontman for the Alabama football program. Alabama has won at least 11 games yearly under Saban since 2011, making the CFP, the BCS National Championship, or a high-end bowl game nearly every season. Former Washington Huskies bench boss Kalen DeBoer will take over next fall after leading his former club to the national championship game in 2023.
DeBoer went 37-9 as a head coach with the Fresno State Bulldogs and Huskies. He is most known for his success working with quarterbacks. Washington gunslinger Michael Penix Jr. threw for 36 touchdowns against 11 picks last season, while Fresno’s Jake Haener tossed 33 touchdowns and nine picks in 2020, DeBoer’s final with the program.
