The Detroit Lions are making headlines today. That is because Lions head coach Dan Campbell had former wrestler Hulk Hogan as a guest at their training camp. This spark controversy and some news outlets tried to claim that Lions fans were not happy about this. However, Lions fans responded to this claim, stating this is not the case.
Controversial Hulk Hogan Invite
Some people may be curious as to why inviting a famous wrestler to training camp is controversial. The answer is that Hulk Hogan is getting more and more public with his political leanings. Last week, Hogan was a speaker at the Republican National Convention. It was there he made his support for controversial presidential candidate Donald Trump known.
Sparking Controversy
Once it got out that Hogan was attending the Lions’ training camp with Dan Campbell, certainly media outlets wasted no time creating some division on it. Social media accounts like this claimed that Lions fans were not happy with Hogan being at training camp. While this may have been true for a subsection of the fanbase, a lot of Lions fans were quick to respond to the claims mentioned in posts like the one above.
Detroit Lions Fans Fire Back
Several Lions fans defended Dan Campbell once this information went public. Here were some of the most notable comments defending him:
“Imagine being a g*y liberal”
“Imagine being a loser offended by this”
“Everyone on the Lions is voting Trump”
“The left agrees with free speech, unless you disagree with them.”
“I used to be the biggest Lions fan, but not anymore! I cried myself to sleep in my wife’s arms. I’ll never watch a football game again. Even my wife’s boyfriend agrees this isn’t okay!”
“Dan Campbell is not allowed to be Republican? Or hold his own political beliefs? Or simply work with others who hold personal political ideologies?”
“Why do people always have to turn something lighthearted and that has nothing to do with politics into something political. This is just pure fun, nothing else to it.”
“Why? Because Hulk Hogan is a PATRIOT? This is why Campbell is a great leader and I stand by our predictions all offseason that Detroit will be Super Bowl bound this season”
“I’m sure there are also many Lions fans that love it”
“Being mad at someone for their politics says more about you than them a lot of times”
