The NFL world, and the Pittsburgh Steelers in particular, are still waiting for four-time NFL MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers to make a decision for the 2025 season. As the 2025 NFL Draft nears, the Steelers are still waiting for the future Pro Football Hall of Famer to decide whether or not he wants to play for them this season.
Ever since the New York Jets revealed that they were going to part ways with Rodgers, many have speculated on where he would play in 2025. As the offseason as progressed, though, team after team has either signed a free agent quarterback, traded for one, or is planning on drafting one.
Indeed, the Steelers are the only team that has met with and made an offer to Rodgers, while the Minnesota Vikings turned down his offer to play for them for a year while mentoring JJ McCarthy.
Despite not having any other teams interested in his services, Rodgers has not made a commitment to Pittsburgh. And now, everyone knows why.
Aaron Rodgers Would Rather Retire than Play for an NFL Team that Cannot Compete for a Super Bowl

Rodgers, of course, was the starting quarterback of the Green Bay Packers for 15 years, and spent a total of 18 seasons with the organization that drafted him back in 2005. However, over the last several years, Rodgers’ NFL future has been murky at best.
When he emerged from his famed darkness retreat following the 2022 NFL season, Rodgers revealed that he was 90% retired. Seeing that the Packers were looking to trade him, though, lit a competitive fire within in him that brought him back to the gridiron and to the Jets.
A torn Achilles in 2023, though, ended his revenge tour before it began. While he stayed healthy in 2024, New York finished 5-12 and Rodgers had the worst statistical season of his career.
Many presumed that the four-time NFL MVP would want to play again in 2025 after being released by the Jets, just like how he wanted to play after 2022 when Green Bay decided they wanted to move on from him.
It seems, though, that Rodgers does not want to play for the sake of playing. If he plays, he wants to win a Super Bowl:
How about this: Our ace all-access insider @AKinkhabwala says on @937thefan she’s hearing from people that “Aaron Rodgers is more likely to retire than sign with a team that’s not a Super Bowl contender.”

It stands to reason, therefore, that if Rodgers has not signed with the Steelers yet, he is not convinced that they have the talent to win a Super Bowl. Art Rooney recently said they would like to have a deal done by the NFL Draft at the end of the month, but that they are willing to wait a little longer if needed.
It sounds like Rodgers is waiting to see how the draft goes before he makes his final decision. That being said, if he thought the Steelers were real Super Bowl contenders already, he would have signed by now.
