Aaron Rodgers knows exactly why Tommy DeVito has been so successful with the New York Giants after earning the QB1 role.
During Week 14’s Monday Night Football, DeVito propelled the Giants to an intense walk-off field goal win over Rodgers’ former team, the Green Bay Packers. The 25-year-old signal-caller was highly efficient all game long and displayed what’s basically a flawless game as New York took the 24-22 victory.
DeVito finished the night with 158 yards and one touchdown on 17-of-21 pass completion. He also rushed for 71 yards as he left the Packers confused on how to stop him.
During his appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers was full of praise for DeVito following the performance. When asked how DeVito was able to be so successful despite having the same guys that Daniel Jones had–the Giants just won two games with Jones as QB1 this 2023–the four-time NFL MVP broke it down and highlighted that it all boils down to three things: be opportunistic, make good decisions and take care of the ball.
Rodgers emphasized that DeVito is doing just that with the Giants, allowing him to win three of the last four games that he has started. It also helps that the undrafted rookie quarterback has “a lot of moxie and charisma,” as the New York Jets leader described it.

Aaron Rodgers couldn’t have said it any better for sure. Tommy DeVito is doing all the right things with the New York Giants, proving that he’s more than capable of leading a team instead of being a backup quarterback.
The Giants have improved to 5-8 on the season, thanks to DeVito. They are still in the hunt for a spot in the NFC Playoffs, and while it might be difficult, the presence of their rookie QB is giving the fanbase hope.
Tommy DeVito, the New York Giants’ ‘Stone Cold Killer’
Tommy DeVito definitely deserves all the praise he’s getting. Against the Green Bay Packers, Tommy Cutlets made plenty of New York Giants and NFL history.
With this performance, DeVito became the first starting quarterback since QB starts were tracked in 1950 to have an 80 percent or better pass-completion rate, rush for 70-plus yards, commit zero turnovers and avoid getting sacked in a game.
Even better, DeVito is the first undrafted rookie QB in NFL history to win three straight starts without giving up an interception, as well as have 100-plus passer rating in three straight starts.
His performance earned him plenty of praises, with his Giants teammate Wan’Dale Robinson even calling him a “stone cold killer” on the field.
Sure enough, the Giants faithful would want to see more of that DeVito moving forward.
