After powering the New York Giants to an epic 24-22 win over the Green Bay Packers in Week 14, Tommy DeVito has earned all kinds of praises from around the NFL world. Fittingly enough, the best compliment came from one of his teammates as Tommy Cutlets continue to show he belongs in the NFL.
Giants wideout Wan’Dale Robinson showered DeVito with plenty of love on Monday after the quarterback, who was making his fourth straight start as QB1 for New York, led their game-winning drive with great efficiency.
With the Packers taking the 22-21 lead with just over a minute and half remaining, DeVito didn’t falter and focused on getting the job done. The rookie quarterback proceeded to stage an eight-play, 57-yard drive that was highlighted by a 32-yard pass to Robinson himself.
After that, all the Giants needed was for Randy Bullock to make the 37-yard field goal, which the kicker did with ease.
DeVito finished with a highly-efficient 17-of-21 passing, en route to 158 yards and one touchdown without an interception. He also rushed for 10 carries and 71 yards as the Packers struggled to find a solution on how to stop him.
Robinson couldn’t help but describe DeVito as a “stone cold killer” on the field, which is the complete opposite of the New York Giants quarterback’s personality when he’s off the gridiron.
“Shoot, he’s all laughing and joking in the locker room,” Robinson said, via Northjersey.com. “But whenever we get out there on the field, it’s like he’s a stone cold killer. I mean, I feel like that’s what you want in your quarterback. He’s laser focused, just letting everybody know that this was going to be our game.”
After Tommy DeVito’s performance on Monday Night Football, it’s certainly hard to find more fitting words for him than what Wan’Dale Robinson said.
Tommy DeVito Makes History with New York Giants
Tommy DeVito didn’t just lead the New York Giants to victory during Monday Night Football, though. He also made plenty of history in the process.
The 25-year-old signal-caller out of Illinois is actually the first undrafted rookie QB in NFL history to win three straight starts without giving up an interception. Making things more amazing, he’s also the first undrafted rookie QB with 100-plus passer rating in three straight starts.
His 71 rushing yards against the Packers is also the most by any undrafted rookie QB since 1970, per CBS Sports.
The future is certainly looking bright for DeVito, and if he can maintain his newfound success, he could very well be an important piece for the Giants’ future.
