The San Francisco 49ers did not play around in their rematch of last year’s NFC Championship Game with the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 13. Not only did they pick up a big win, they completely beat down the Eagles to the tune of a 42-19 final score. After blowing out both the Dallas Cowboys and now the Eagles, the 49ers are looking like they could be the best team in the NFC.
Looking back at the playoff matchup last year, the 49ers were unable to overcome their quarterback injuries. Brock Purdy went down in the game and was unable to throw due to an elbow injury when he came back in.
Following this year’s “revenge” game, the 49ers did not hold back on being honest about their thoughts on the rematch.
49ers Star Throws Shade At Eagles After Week 13 Beatdown
After the big Week 13 victory, 49ers star offensive lineman Trent Williams was brutally honest about the “revenge” game. He doesn’t view it quite like the media and fans were viewing it.
“I wouldn’t call it redemption. Last year was last year. More power to ’em, they won that game. This game, today, was all about us and showing the world where we sit when it comes to the hierarchy in this NFL. Last year is last year. We didn’t have a quarterback. You’re supposed to win that game.”
Clearly, Williams is insinuating that the Eagles only won because of the quarterback injuries that the 49ers were dealing with. Honestly, that is a very fair point. If Purdy had been able to play the whole game healthy, there very well could have been a different outcome.
If this season has been any indication, the 49ers when healthy are able to dominate the other best teams in the NFC. Before beating the Eagles by 23, they dominated the Cowboys by a final score of 42-10.
Anything can happen throughout the rest of the 2023 NFL season. The playoffs are a different breed of game as well. One thing that we do know is that the NFC playoffs are going to be very entertaining.
Next up for the 49ers will be a Week 14 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks at home. Make sure to tune in to see if San Francisco can continue with their winning ways at 4:05 p.m. EST on FOX.
