Among the large list of 49ers Free Agents, one, in particular, has stated that he will look at his options and play somewhere else in 2023. This player is veteran kicker, Robbie Gould. Gould has been playing in the league since 2005, and has been on just three teams, mainly known for two. It was announced today that this 49ers free agent will be leaving the team in 2023, and now San Francisco will need a new kicker.
49ers Free Agent Will Hit The Market
It was announced on Twitter that Robbie Gould will be testing the market this off-season by Adam Schefter. Gould began his career with the Chicago Bears and was with them for 11 years. After playing with Chicago, the kicker spent one year with the New York Giants before spending six seasons with the San Francisco 49ers.
Veteran kicker Robbie Gould said today that, as much as he enjoyed his last six seasons in San Francisco, he will test free agency later this month and be kicking elsewhere in 2023.

Gould joined the San Francisco 49ers in 2017, which means the team will have to look for a new kicker, which is something Head Coach Kyle Shanahan and General Manager, John Lynch never truly had to do. Lynch is in attendance at the 2023 combine. While at the podium he stated that the team would look at potential kickers just in case, and it is a good thing that they took that into consideration.
In the six years that this 49ers free agent has been on the team, they went to the Super Bowl one time, and the NFC Championship game three times. Gould is nearing the end of his career, and will likely look for a team that could get him the Super Bowl ring that he has never gotten.
Robbie Gould has never missed a field goal in playoffs, which will be difficult to replace on a team with Super Bowl aspirations. Gould also does the kick-offs and the team will need to be sure their new kicker can do well with that.
Now, along with the long list of free agents in San Francisco, the team will need to worry about, adding a new kicker will also be a priority for them. It could also help the team at the same time, as drafting a kicker will be much cheaper than retaining Robbie Gould.
