4-Star WR Anthony Evans Flips to Georgia — Sooners Scrambling for New WR

On Friday, November 25th, 4-Star WR Anthony Evans out of Converse, TX flipped his commitment from the Oklahoma Sooners to the Geogia Bulldogs. Evans is the fourth WR commit in Georgia’s 2023 class. Many people around Evans thought that he would commit to Georgia back in August, however, he ultimately committed to Oklahoma due to a late push by L’Damian Washington and the rest of the Sooner staff.

Even after Anthony Evans committed to OU, the hype around Georgia never really went away. The noise only grew louder when he took an unofficial visit to Athens for their game against Tennessee. Add that to the fact that his mother is a die hard Georgia fan, and you have a perfect recipe for a Flipmas miracle.

How Will Anthony Evans Fit in at Georgia?

Anthony Evans is an interesting prospect. The Texas native may not have the most eye popping stats, but he more than makes up for that with his physical capabilities. His biggest asset is his lightning speed. Evans runs a 10.27 100-meter, as well as a 4.37 40-yard dash. He runs extremely crisp routes, and can make a ton of separation. If I were to make a collegiate comparison for Anthony Evans, it would be Mario Williams. Just like Williams, he has elite speed, and can make guys miss in the open field. The 21st commit in Georgia’s class should see the field early, and may carve out a significant role on special teams in year one.

Who Does Oklahoma Pick Up to Fill the Hole?

With Anthony Evans’s decommitment, Oklahoma now has an open spot at WR. Who will the Sooners now try to get to replace him? The first name that comes to mind for many Sooner fans is Micah Tease. Hailing from Tulsa, Oklahoma, the Booker T. Washington standout has shown interest in playing for Oklahoma in the past. However, the Sooner staff wanted Tease to play defensive back, while he wanted to play receiver.

Neither side was willing to give in, and Tease ultimately ended up committing to Arkansas. Now though, I have a feeling that Oklahoma may try their luck with Tease once again, this time as a receiver. With a new hole to fill, don’t be surprised if OU tries to re-open this recruitment.

Another name to watch is Chance Fitzgerald, a 3-star WR out of Nolensville Tennessee. The senior standout stands in at 6-3, 184 lbs, and has offers from the likes of Louisville, Oklahoma State, and Auburn. 247 Analyst Allen Trieu evaluates Fitzgerald as a P5 starter, with enough tools to potentially play at the next level. For more evaluation of Fitzgerald, click here.

Fitzgerald is teammates with Oklahoma EDGE commit Taylor Wein. The Sooners have been in talks with him for some time, yet haven’t pulled the trigger in terms of an offer. However, the Sooners definitely have an opening to swoop in late and potentially secure a commitment.
