- For teams striving for a path to the Super Bowl, Offseason Free Agency is a crucial opportunity to turn an average franchise into a Postseason Contender. However, a common issue in Free Agency is overspending, which can cause trouble over time for a team’s salary cap. It takes efforts from the organization’s scouting department and the general manager to ensure that team spending is efficient not only for the current season but for seasons to come. Throughout the history of the NFL, we have seen contending teams go back into rebuilding cause of an irresponsible free-agency move.
While reviewing these free agency moves, I should also note that the contract terms that we see being posted on social media and news sites are usually over-simplified. Contract years can fade away, nonguaranteed figures drop, and incentives could not be met. So we will be grading based on the player’s talent and the team fit, but wont scrutinize too much over the financial specifics.
