Rising fourth-year tight end, Dawson Knox, will kick his 2022 NFL season alongside a new-looking Bills offense. How will recent changes to Buffalo’s depth chart impact Knox’s fantasy football value, and what can we expect from the big man this upcoming season?
Dawson Knox Career Overview
Dawson Knox was selected by the Bills in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft. In his rookie season, Knox recorded almost 400 receiving yards and two touchdowns. We saw little improvement from Knox in year two, where he caught only 288 yards and three touchdowns. Last season, however, the tight end took a big leap, setting a career-best in every receiving statistic. In 2021, the big man hauled in 49 receptions, nearly 600 receiving yards, and found the end-zone nine times. Despite missing two games due to a calf injury, Knox averaged almost eleven fantasy points per game. The performance landed him in eighth on end-of-season rankings for the tight end position. We can attribute part of Knox’s success last season to the Bills quarterback, Josh Allen. In 2021, Allen established himself as the most productive QB in fantasy football, and undoubtedly boosted the value of his pass-catchers.
2022 Expectations
Both Knox and Allen will return to Buffalo for the 2022 NFL season. However, Knox might see less action in his fourth year due to the Bill’s offseason acquisition of former Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end, O.J. Howard. In March, Howard and the Buffalo Bills agreed to a one-year $3.5 million contract, including a $1.25 million signing bonus. Throughout his five-year NFL career, Howard has recorded 1,737 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns, and is certainly capable of making an impact in Buffalo’s offense. As we progress through the preseason, fantasy owners should keep a close eye on how the Bill’s are using both tight ends.
As it stands right now, Knox is projected to go 9th-11th in the tight end position for standard 12-team leagues. However, Knox’s fantasy value may decline in the regular season depending on how the Bill’s plan to use their new addition, O.J. Howard.
