With the Chicago Bears preparing to draft USC Trojans quarterback Caleb Williams in a few weeks, they moved on from starter Justin Fields. They traded Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers and at least one former NFL MVP is excited about the potential.
On the most recent episode of Club Shay Shay, former NFL MVP quarterback Cam Newton was a guest and Pro Football Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe asked about the current Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback situation with Russell Wilson and Justin Fields. Newton was highly complimentary of what Fields could do with Mike Tomlin in his ear.
“Mike Tomlin is doing what I just said. He’s developing Justin Fields. Hey, we’re gonna bring in a veteran that you can see not only his preparation on the field, but how does he take care of his body? I want you to study that. And then he’s on the one-year contract. If he does not produce, then you will be inserted to take on that. And you’re still young enough, yes, to be labeled a franchise guy.” h/t Steelers Depot
Justin Fields did decently well last season with the Chicago Bears as he went 578-of-958 (60.3%) for 6,674 yards with 40 touchdown passes to 30 interceptions in his three years in the NFL thus far. He also has been a threat with his legs as he has 356 rushing attempts for 2,220 yards (6.2 yards per carry) with 14 rushing touchdowns to add on.

Can Justin Fields win the quarterback battle in Pittsburgh against Russell Wilson?
There is definitely going to be a bit of a competition between Russell Wilson and Justin Fields this offseason to get the start in Week 1. This is a great chance for Fields to prove exactly what he is worth and get a massive payday as he is on the final year of his rookie contract unless the Steelers decide to pick up his $25.6 million fifth-year option in 2025.
Fields adds a dynamic that Wilson does not: running with the football. With the playmakers that the Pittsburgh Steelers have, Fields creates a more dynamic offense that Rusell Wilson would.
