The Wisconsin football staff landed a huge transfer from USC this off-season, and it should certainly pay off for the Badgers in 2024.
Inside linebacker Tackett Curtis is a former four-star recruit who committed to USC out of High School. Curtis logged solid playing time as a true Freshman for the Trojans, but chose to enter the transfer portal after the team struggled this past season. Curtis is now considered a breakout defensive candidate for this upcoming season after transferring to Wisconsin.
Wisconsin Football Linebacker Tackett Curtis Named #2 Overall Defensive Breakout Candidate For 2024 Season
Right as the transfer portal opened up during this college football off-season, the Wisconsin football staff quickly found just the man they wanted on their team. Talented linebacker Tackett Curtis entered the transfer portal after the USC Trojans finished the regular season with a 7-5 record. The Trojans fell far below their lofty expectations, and a mass exodus of transfers left the program.
Curtis did not spend long in the transfer portal before landing with the Wisconsin football team. The linebacker had previously spent time on the campus as a High School Senior before committing and signing with USC. Curtis had kept Wisconsin in his final group of schools, but the Badgers did not secure a commitment from the linebacker.

Curtis was considered one of the top transfer portal entries, and with the amount of schools that reached out to the linebacker that is no surprise. Now with a new change of scenery, Curtis could be a major breakout candidate for the Wisconsin football defense. Bleacher Report released a list of the top 15 possible defensive breakout candidates this upcoming season, and placed Curtis in the second spot.
Linebacker Tackett Curtis Excited to Make an Impact for Wisconsin
One of the major factors that led to Curtis choosing the Badgers was their defensive success during this past season. There were individuals on the USC Trojans defense that had exceptional seasons, but as a whole, the team struggled to play defense when they truly needed it. Curtis was intrigued by the success of the Wisconsin football defense a season ago, and while their record may not reflect it, offenses did not enjoy playing against the Badgers.
Can Curtis Breakout for the Wisconsin Badgers Football Team During the 2024 Season?
There is no doubt that Curtis has the ability to take over the middle of the field for the Wisconsin football team next season. Curtis has an exceptional combination of speed, field vision, and physical tools that creates a serious threat of a linebacker. This past season, Curtis recorded 40 tackles, two sacks, and one forced fumble for the Trojans as a rotational linebacker for the team.
Entering his second season of play, Curtis will start for the Badgers right away as he commands the middle of the field for the Badgers. With a chance to finally play every defensive snap, the chances for Curtis to make a play will only increase. The exceptional linebacker can truly become a defensive threat next season when he is able to play with a surrounding defense he can rely on.
