The New York Jets made headlines this week by benching QB Zach Wilson and announcing Tim Boyle as the starting QB for Week 12’s Black Friday game against the Miami Dolphins. Well, that did not go so well considering the Jets lost 34-13. Now, New York’s record falls to 4-7 with six games remaining.
Will Tim Boyle remain the New York Jets’ starting QB for the rest of the season? Due to the Jets have any good alternatives? Let’s dive into this.
Tim Boyle’s Performance
Truthfully, Boyle did not have a great game in Week 12. He was 27-38 and threw 179 passing yards. Boyle also threw a touchdown pass late in the game.
However, he also had two interceptions. One of those interceptions was notable. Right before halftime, Boyle attempted a Hail Mary pass from near midfield. However, it was intercepted by the Dolphins and returned all the way down the field for a touchdown. To make it worse, Boyle was the last line of defense for this touchdown and missed a tackle badly.
If that was not enough, Boyle was also sacked seven times today. It is safe to say that his presence did not make much of a difference in this loss. So, the question now is if head coach Robert Saleh and the Jets will stick with Boyle for the rest of the 2023 NFL season.

New York Jets’ Options
The Jets have just six games remaining in the 2023 season. However, their playoff chances are dwindling. Let’s see what options they have for the rest of the way.
Trevor Siemian
Siemian is a veteran quarterback who has bounced around the NFL for the last few years. However, he has never had a notable stint with any team he has played on. This includes his shortest stint with the Jets back in 2019.
The point is that Siemian is not likely to bring anything to the table that we do not already know. Plus, he made a bad impression in New York during his limited time with the team in the past. Going in this direction feels pointless for the Jets.
Aaron Rodgers
Perhaps the most interesting option on the board, many people have speculated whether Rodgers could miraculously return this season from his torn Achilles. He is undoubtedly the Jets’ best option when healthy. However, nobody knows what his true health status is.
With that said, a torn Achilles is a major injury. As mentioned above, the Jets are just 4-7 and it is becoming more and more unlikely that they will make the playoffs. Rodgers has one more year on his contract with New York. The smart move here seems to be to save him for next season.

Zach Wilson
Would the Jets dare go back to the quarterback who Boyle replaced? One of the reasons why he got benched was that he has thrown more interceptions than touchdown passes in each of his last two seasons. Plus, the Jets’ offense was practically non-existent under his command. It would be a pretty bad look for the Jets to go back to Wilson right away after making a big point of demoting him to the third string.

Tim Boyle
Finally, the Jets can always choose to stick with what they have. They can use this as an opportunity to see if they have anything in Boyle. Plus, New York is arguably playing with house money here. That is because they still have Aaron Rodgers for next year in their back pocket. Because of this, if Boyle is bad enough for the Jets to lose every game remaining, it could mean that they get high draft picks in next year’s NFL Draft.
