When the Tennessee Titans fired Mike Vrabel after the end of the 2023 season, team owner Amy Adams Strunk made a statement about it, while giving Will Levis a huge vote of confidence in the process.
“While this season was disappointing, I see early signs of progress taking shape. Last year we added a promising young quarterback and several other talented players to our roster,” read Strunk’s statement.
“I know I am part of the plan, and for her to think of me and include me in it is really special and makes me want to work even harder,” said Levis via the official Tennessee Titans website.
Will Levis’ rise to becoming the starting QB for the Tennessee Titans
Will Levis began his rookie NFL season as the third-string signal-caller behind Ryan Tannehill and Malik Willis. When Tannehill was out against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 8 due to an ankle injury, Levis made his first NFL start, and he tallied 238 passing yards and four touchdowns en route to a 28-23 victory.
After two more starts in Weeks 9 and 10 (against the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers), then-head coach Mike Vrabel declared that Levis would be the Tennessee Titan’s starting quarterback for the foreseeable future, which irked Ryan Tannehill.
With Will Levis leading the way, the Tennessee Titans went 3-6 en route to a 6-11 record, good for fourth in the AFC South. The former Kentucky signal-caller had 149 pass completions for 1,808 passing yards and eight touchdowns for a 58.4 completion percentage.
Will Levis can’t wait to work with Brian Callahan
The firing of Mike Vrabel surprised Levis, especially since Vrabel gave him his big NFL break. But despite feeling bad about it, Levis seems excited to work with their new head coach, Brian Callahan.
“He has been able to work with a great number of quarterbacks, and it gets you excited when you see the track record. You see the stats, and you start watching the film of how he can run an offense and do it really well at a high level efficiently,” said Levis.
“So, I am excited to work for him, and hopefully be that next guy that people mention of guys he’s had under his belt,” he added.
