The Dallas Cowboys’ offense has a big concern this week ahead of their matchup with the New England Patriots. The Cowboys are looking to get back on track after being upset by the Arizona Cardinals in Week 3.
The Patriots are coming into Dallas with a 1-2 record after winning their first game of the season against the New York Jets in Week 3. The Patriots will have two key players on their offensive roster this week that could give the Cowboys offense fits.
According to Todd Archer with ESPN, Cowboys’ offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer said Dallas is altering their hand signals this week because of Will Grier.
Patriots signed QB Will Grier last week off Bengals PS, so the Cowboys will alter their hand signals, calls this week. Brian Schottenheimer: “We know Will knows where a lot of the bones are buried. We know Zeke does as well … I’m sure (Grier) is definitely being interrogated.”

The Patriots poached Will Grier from the Cincinnati Bengals practice squad last week. Grier, who was with the Cowboys during the 2021 and 2022 seasons, knows the hand signals for the Dallas offense. Former Cowboys and current Patriots running back Ezekiel Elliott knows them as well.
While the Cowboys can try and alter hand signals, the changes could cause confusion for some offensive players. The Cowboys have other offensive secrets that could be helpful besides hand signals that Grier and Elliott know.
There’s a reason Grier was poached by Bill Belichick before Week 4. Not only is Grier a talented backup (something the Patriots desperately need), but he can help his coaching staff prepare for the Cowboys.
Dallas Cowboys fans react to the quarterback news
Cowboys and NFL fans reacted to Archer’s report on Twitter. Many fans were upset, calling the Patriots cheaters. Here are the best takes of the Cowboys changing up their hand signals this week.

Dallas should work on not losing to teams like Arizona and figuring out how to get Pollard some touchdowns

The game isn't until a couple of days and they already coming out with excuses

Oldest trick on the book. They’ll cut him next week.🙄

Can’t stop it, but it’s pretty sleazy. Typical Patriots move.

So the whole offense has to change calls and signals. In less than a week. Ugh.

Such a trash move unclassy by the organization to sign players to give them hope only to extract information out of them on their former team and then cut them a week later. Playing with people's lives must be really funny huh.
