QB Hudson Card:
Last season Hudson Card had his ups and downs. Against Louisiana in week one Card looked decent, but followed it up with three quarters of looking lost against Arkansas. He lost the starting job that week against Arkansas, giving it up to Casey Thompson. Card did come back later in the season and looked impressive against WVU. Card has some good tools to succeed at this level, so what are they, and where will this season take him?

High School and Recruiting:
Hudson Card was a high four star QB ranked one spot below reigning Heisman winner Bryce Young out of high school. He moved from WR to QB and excelled at Lake Travis. Listed at 6’2” 201 pounds, he and QB room mate Quinn Ewers share similar builds. Ranked as the number two QB in his class, Card had offers from the likes of Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, Oklahoma, of course Texas, and many others.
On Field Skills:
The first thing that stands out on Hudson Card’s high school and college tape is his athleticism. He was a great WR in high school before moving to QB, so those athletic traits moved with him. When on the field last season however, he looked skittish. One play in the UoL game he almost sacrificed a first down, just to get out of bounds. He also had happy feet in the pocket. While not ideal, it would be hard not too playing behind the 2021 UT offensive line.
Another great thing about Hudson Card is his arm talent. He struggled with down field accuracy last year, but showed that getting the ball down there is effortless. He can throw from a variety of arm angles and on the move, he just needs to be more accurate. In fact, before last season Card’s arm was so impressive to someone they called him “Aaron Rodgers who runs a 4.5.” He fell well short of those lofty expectations, as was well expected. He has a lot of talent, and I hope he can put it all together.
Outlook for Texas in 2022:
In 2022 I can’t see Card making much of an impact, injury permitting. He will see the field at times, as I hope some games Texas will blow their opponent out. I expect Card to be the backup to Quinn Ewers from the start to the end of the year. Card is no slouch, so he will keep Ewers on his toes all year to play at his best.

Career Outlook:
In terms of the career outlook for Hudson Card, his future is bright. Just not at the University of Texas. I would love it if Hudson makes me eat those words, but with Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning both set to be on campus in 2023, I’m just not sure where he fits in. However, Card is super talented, so if he does decide to enter the portal he will be highly coveted. My prediction is he transfers somewhere like Utah and lights it up for a year or two before being a day 2-3 pick in the NFL draft.
