It can’t be possible. Ohio State and Ryan Day could not lose a fourth game in a row to Michigan, something they haven’t done since the late 80s—early 90s. But after three years of being unable to win, the Buckeyes and head coach Ryan Day are staring into trouble in late November.
To make matters worse, Ohio State hasn’t won a game against Michigan since 2019 because the game in 2020 was canceled due to COVID-19, and it hasn’t won at home since 2018. No Buckeye fan would even think that could be possible since the run they have gone on in this rivalry since the year 2000, but when Ohio State runs out of the tunnel at noon Eastern time on Saturday, November 30th, they will be trying to stop a run that has beaten down coaches, players and fans the last three years.
Ryan Day And Ohio State Should Show No Same Losing To Michigan

There is no shame in losing to the Michigan team we saw the past three seasons. They ended up making the playoffs all three years and winning the National Championship five months ago, even the greatest college football coach of all time, Nick Saban, and Alabama lost to them, so what’s the big deal you can make an argument that Ohio State played the Wolverines the best out of every team last season since the game came down to the very end on the road in Ann Arbor which is a tough place to play.
The narrative around Ryan Day is that he can’t beat Michigan, which is not true since he beat them in 2019, and if he doesn’t beat them again this year, he will be looking for a new job this winter.
Ryan Day Should Win The Game But What If He Doesn’t

As of last month, DraftKings Sportsbook has Ohio State as a 10-point favorite against Michigan in a very early line, so Las Vegas thinks the Buckeyes should roll in this game this year. But what if somehow they don’t win this game, and Ryan Day drops his fourth in a row? What happens to him?
Day has proven he is one of the best coaches in college football on and off the field. He has a brilliant mind, and he can go into every living room in the county and recruit with every top team. He has a record of 56-8 in five years, with his only losses coming to Michigan three times, Clemson, Oregon, Georgia, Alabama, and Missouri. Four of those losses came in the regular season, three came in the playoff or title game, and one came in a meaningless bowl game where he had no quarterback, so he’s doing a pretty good job. Still, everyone is hung up on him not beating Michigan.

When you go 56-8 in, you’re doing something right. It’s hard to believe a guy with a record like that is on the so-called hot seat going into the season because he can’t beat one team, which happens to be the biggest game on their schedule, but still having any talks about firing him if he loses a fourth straight game is silly.
Former Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh lost his first five to Ohio State when he became the Wolverines head coach, but that didn’t stop them from letting him go and finding someone new. They stuck with him and ended up winning a National Championship, so does losing this game even matter for Day this season?
Yes, Ohio State has the better team and Michigan no longer has its head coach, Harbaugh, who left to be an NFL head coach this offseason, so it should be a layup. However, Michigan still has some great players in cornerback Will Johnson and defensive tackle Mason Graham, who could be Top Ten picks in the NFL Draft next April, so don’t count them out just yet.
Even if Michigan wins, it won’t be an issue for Ryan Day. Yes, Ohio State fans will cry once again like the last three years, but they will get over themselves quickly because they will be in the new 12-team playoff and can beat any team in the country.
Rivalries Are Dying

This is a new era of college football. It’s not the same era that your fathers and grandfathers grew up in, and all they did was talk about the importance of rivalries. I’m sorry, but the rivalry in the college game is dying, and who cares anymore if you lose to them?
Rivalries used to mean that you would never see a coach leave one rival for another, and now it happens all the time; even players leave for their biggest rivals now. We also saw Ohio State running back coach Tony Alford leave for Michigan in the same role in March, so stop saying that the rivalry is still a big deal. It’s a big deal to the fans, not the coaches and players playing the game, and sadly, most of them look at it as another game, and that’s where we are at the point in this sport.

Ohio State and Michigan could meet up three times a year now in the regular season, Big Ten title game, and playoffs, so are we still making this game a big deal and going to fire your head coach if they don’t beat them? I don’t think so.
Ryan Day is going to win 11 games this season, most likely find a spot in the playoffs, and compete for a National Championship; not many programs can say that, so firing him over a little loss to Michigan will be an overreaction and who cares if even never beats them in the regular season again, if he is in the playoff and competing for titles he will be in Columbus forever.
