College Football 25 is one of, if not the most anticipated sports game ever. With its graphics, in-depth gameplay options, and more than a decade-long drought that fans of the game have endured, to say people are excited about this game would be an understatement.
People are going crazy over this game, looking at each frame of the released previews and breaking down every possible detail. But are there any actual takeaways that fans can take from the game? Surprisingly, there are quite a few.
Here are three:
1. Georgia is Officially Not Just a Defensive Team, College Football 25 Agrees

For years, Georgia was known for winning by their defense and having an offense that was good enough to win but not necessarily good enough to carry the team if the defense had an off day. Looking at the past few years of statistics by Georiga, they have been an elite offensive team. However, the overall perception hasn’t changed.
Perhaps it was the fact that Stetson Bennett was a walk-on transfer turned starter for a three years, which surely meant Georgia wasn’t that good on offense, or perhaps it was that the defense is still so elite that people haven’t taken the time to dive into the offense.
According to the video game, Georgia has the highest-rated offense, along with Oregon, with a 94 OVR ranking. These rankings aren’t just pulled randomly out of a hat. These ratings look deeply at every team’s depth charts and playbooks.
In other words, even if Georgia doesn’t have the most explosive offense in college football, they will probably be in the tier.
2. Big 12 (New and Old) is Still Offensive Fireworks

The Big 12, for the past decade or so, has been known for great offenses and defenses that don’t care. Of course, this isn’t entirely true, but when you see scores like 44-31 (KSU vs. UCF), 49-28 (TTU vs. UH), or 41-39 (UH vs. WVU) all from last year, this stereotype holds up pretty well.
Going into the season, the Big 12 isn’t expected to have many teams ranked high in the AP Top 25. Aside from Utah, Arizona, and Oklahoma State, there aren’t any sure Top 25 teams. Sure, a fourth team may sneak in at No. 24/25, but the overall feeling is that the Big 12 won’t be loading up the early season rankings.
According to the EA rankings for offenses, the conference will still have a ton of offense. Five teams are rated in the Top 25, with UCF being the worst at 21st. Looking at the other conferences in that same range, here is the breakdown
- SEC – 7 Teams
- Big 12 – 5 Teams
- ACC – 4 Teams
- Big 10 – 3 Teams
- AAC/Independent – 1 Each
Again, nobody is saying the Big 12 is the SEC (or Big 10), but it is an indicator that while the defenses may not be elite, the Big 12 will at least be fun to watch if you like high-scoring games.
3. Is College Football Going to be More Offensively Charged in 2023?

Defense wins championships is a phrase every football player has heard at every game level. Yet, looking at the game’s offensive power rankings, the best teams have the best rankings. Georgia, Oregon, Alabama, Texas, Ohio State, and LSU are the top six teams, and ironically, nobody would be shocked if those were the top six teams when the season ends. The only teams absent from the rankings at the elite level are Michigan (unranked), Notre Dame (17th), and Florida State (22nd).
Looking at last year’s offensive rankings, the defense got Alabma and Michigan to the playoffs, while Washington and Texas relied heavily on their offense. We don’t have the defensive rankings for the game yet, but it looks like EA at least thinks that this year, the offense will be driving most teams toward the Playoffs.
