Jets lead series 8-5
The New York Jets come to Lambeau to face off against the Green Bay Packers in this week six matchup. The Jets are winning the series that dates back to 1973. The Packers have been closing the gap, however, with them winning the last three matchups. The Packers’ win streak was shredded in the final minutes by the New York Giants in a close game in London. The Jets are a young, scrappy team capable of 40-point bombs or 9-point duds. They have also pulled off a couple of impressive comeback wins. The Jets will be a test for the Packers in week six.

Week 6 Preview: What to Watch For
Bouncing Back From a Loss
We should watch how LaFleur and the Packers respond to a tough loss. The defense held strong in the first half aside from a few chunk plays but struggled to contain Jones and the Giants’ run game in the second half. The team fared even worse offensively. They scored zero points after a couple of punts and a couple of tipped passes. The Packers have never lost back-to-back regular season games under LaFleur, so the team is looking to bounce back from their second loss of the year.
LaFleur said Monday that “there’s a lot that we need to clean up. Number one is…the urgency to get lined up and get ready to play.” The defense was caught out of position on several big chunk plays throughout the game. He also said, “overall consistency at which we play has got to be much improved, we have to have better focus down in and down out.” The offense needs to be able to put the game away after holding a team to 10 points going into the half.
LaFleur also mentioned the importance of winning the turnover battle. The defense should be able to bounce back and generate turnovers against a quarterback making his 16th regular season start. Additionally, the offense will be tested against a young defense led by rookie Sauce Gardner, but this Jets unit has been burnt before. Look to see a more balanced, efficient passing attack on Sunday.
The Bonds That Bind Us
Matt LaFleur holds a few personal bonds with a number of the Jets coaching staff. His brother Mike is the Jets’ offensive coordinator. LaFleur says he “probably talk(s) to (Mike) every day” but adds with a smile “we’re not talking quite as much this week.”
He also talks to his old friend and colleague Robert Saleh “on a regular basis as well.” The two head coaches have known each other since they were graduate assistants at Central Michigan University. This isn’t the first time they have been on opposing sidelines; Saleh was defensive coordinator for the 49ers when they beat the Packers in the NFC Championship in 2020. Overall LaFleur’s Packers are 2-2 against Saleh’s 49ers’ defense. This Sunday will act as a tiebreaker.
My Week 6 Preview Predictions – Packers 31- Jets 22
- Despite the projected score, this will be a tough game for Green Bay against a Jets team that will fight every down until the end of the game. The Packers will struggle contain the Jets’ running game. They will give up 100+ yards on the ground to the Jets’ running backs Breece Hall and Michael Carter.
- Wilson, on the other hand, will get bodied. The defense will focus on getting after the quarterback more aggressively in this one, so expect four or more sacks.
- I guessed incorrectly last week that the Packers’ defense will generate three or more turnovers against the New York Giants. This week I will set the bar a little lower and say I they force two turnovers.
- This will be a get-right game for Rodgers and the offense. Rodgers will throw 300 and 3 for the first time this season.
