Sam Hartman & AT Perry vs #23 Florida St
Sam Hartman’s 6 touchdown performance against Clemson last week, one of which went to big bodied target A.T. Perry. Perry is an intriguing prospect in the mold of Chase Claypool and DK Metcalf with his size speed combination. Hartman is one of the more criticized quarterbacks in a deep 2023 class. However, his stock rose after leading the Deacon Demons to a double OT loss vs #5 Clemson. White not the best performance for Perry, he was still able to bring in more than 40 receiving yards and come up with a touchdown in the first overtime. This duo showed up in a big time game, and will be tested again in week 5.
The Florida State Seminoles are making a push towards the top of the ACC. Unlike Clemson, FSU brings to the game one of the stronger pass defending units in the country. The Seminoles boast the 16th best defense in passing yards per game, and jump up to 7th when it comes to yards per completion. Defenses like these will force Hartman to take underneath throws and not give up the big play. They will look to neutralize Perry’s downfield presence and limit the easy big play he has had success with so far. Hartman’s patience in the pocket and decision making will be tested early and often. Wake Forest may have to try Perry in a more intermediate role, or use him to keep the safeties honest and open up other receivers underneath
