The Washington Commanders will have the second pick in the 2024 NFL Draft on Thursday night. Many expect Washington to take quarterback Jayden Daniels from LSU with that pick. If they were to take Drake Maye from North Carolina or J.J. McCarthy from Michigan, it would come to many as a surprise at this point.
All along, the Commanders have been linked to drafting Daniels from LSU. The Washington Commanders need a quarterback and they also have other needs. Even after the second pick, Washington’s night may not be done. General manager Adam Peters might have a chance to trade back into the first round depending on what unfolds.
The Washington Commanders also have two second-round picks and they are at 36 overall and 40 overall. Washington could use both of those picks to trade back in the first round and that is something that other teams would love to have if the situation is right. Along with the quarterback and offensive line, they need some help on the defensive side of the football. Adam Peters was brought into the front office to find very good talent that the last regime failed to find.
Ryan Fowler NFL Analyst For Bleacher Report Thinks the Washington Commanders Could Trade Back Into the First Round
According to Ryan Fowler, an NFL analyst for Bleacher Report, a source in Washington says that the Commanders are going to try and be aggressive and trade back into the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Those two second-round picks are going to be helpful in trying to get back into the first round.
One of the biggest needs that the Washington Commanders need is a left tackle. Washington did not address the situation in free agency and there could be some offensive linemen that slip in the 2024 NFL Draft.
There are a couple of names that could intrigue the Commanders. One of those names is offensive tackle Tyler Guyton from Oklahoma. Amarius Mims from Georgia is another offensive lineman who could slip in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Is there a chance that General Manager Adam Peters will trade those two picks for the 31st pick with the San Francisco 49ers? Peters was in the front office with 49ers general manager John Lynch and maybe San Francisco doesn’t want to keep their first-round selection.
That is a potential team that they could do business with. Maybe the Kansas City Chiefs also don’t want the 32nd pick and they also would love to move out of the first round. The Washington Commanders need to be wise with their second-round selections.
