The Washington Commanders go into the 2023 season with a lot of questions. After moving on from Taylor Heinicke, the team seems to be fully behind Sam Howell at quarterback. He is a complete unknown but the Commanders may be just trying to see what they have before they determine a future plan. Howell will go into the year with one less weapon. Washington Commanders tight end Armani Rogers tore his Achilles yesterday in OTAs.
Washington Commanders Armani Rogers Tears Achilles
Rogers was signed as an undrafted free agent out of Ohio. He played quarterback there before transitioning to the tight end position for the Commanders. The team is very familiar with this as Logan Thomas was also a college quarterback before making the position switch to tight end. He did appear in 11 games last season but saw limited plays being run specifically for him. An Achilles tear will likely end his season and is a huge blow for a player that is looking to make his mark on the NFL.
Wild Card Of A Team
I have no clue what to expect from Washington this year. You could tell me any outcome and I would believe it. The team could feel envigorated after the team sale. Howell could be the next great quarterback. Terry McLaurin has a career year and the defense is better than advertised. I could also see Howell being awful behind a shaky offensive line. A couple of injuries and unlucky losses here and there and the Commanders could be picking in the top five. One thing is for sure, this team will be fun to watch.
You have to feel for Armani Rogers. He isn’t some top pick that has a lot of guaranteed money. He was trying to make a name for himself in the NFL and now his career is likely in jeopardy.
