The Washington Commanders have been one of the more active teams in the 2024 free agency pool as they continue to use their cap space to improve their roster. The team needed to improve on the offensive line and they did so as they were able to sign former Kansas City Chiefs guard Nick Allegretti to a three-year, $16 million deal.
Allegretti was selected in the seventh round by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2019 and has played in every game from 2020 onward despite never starting more than nine games in a season. He was able to prove his toughness in the most recent Super Bowl as he started and played the entire game despite suffering a torn UCL during the second quarter.
This is a great payday for Allegretti and just goes to show it does not matter where a player is drafted but what they do when on the field. The Washington Commanders now have a replacement for left guard Saahdiq Charles, who is an unrestricted free agent. With the team adding running back Austin Ekeler and tight end Zach Ertz already offensively while adding linebacker Frankie Luvu on the defense, this team is going to try to compete in 2024.
Can the Washington Commanders make the playoffs in 2024?
This is expected to be the new and improved Washington Commanders and the team has seen a lot of changes. With new head coach Dan Quinn and the second pick in the 2024 NFL draft, they have a lot of excitement for the upcoming season. While adding experienced players while also holding five picks in the first three rounds, including thee picks in the top 40 selections, they really can change their roster.
With the Dallas Cowboys being stagnant this offseason and the New York Giants losing running back Saquon Barkley, there is an opening for the Washington Commanders to be a threat for one of the three NFC Wild Card teams.
