One of the biggest dreams of every NFL general manager is to score a jackpot during NFL Drafts. It is always going to be easier said than done because finding the talent who will have a booming career in the pros isn’t an exact science, as Washington Commanders GM Adam Peters said on Tuesday at the 2024 NFL Draft Combine (via Ben Standig of The Athletic).
“With quarterback or any position, it’s people evaluating people,” Peters said. “You’re going to make mistakes, and it’s a matter of if you have a better hit rate. And the more hits you have, whether it’s the first-round pick, the seventh-round pick or anywhere in between, that’s how you build your team.”
The Washington Commanders Are Looking To Nail The 2024 NFL Draft
The Washington Commanders have nine draft picks at the upcoming draft, none more important than the No. 2 pick overall. The NFC East franchise is widely expected to use that pick to get a new quarterback, though, there’s no guarantee that they would go that way. They could even trade that pick. Nevertheless, Peters and the Commanders know they have to nail this year’s draft, with the team looking to make noise as soon as the 2024 NFL season, particularly since they have made quite a transformation in their coaching staff.
New head coach Dan Quinn trusts Peters and the Commanders front office to get the right talent in the draft. There is pressure to do just that, but it will also take some time for Washington — or any team — to determine whether the players they’re about to draft will blossom into great assets.
