The Utah Utes starting quarterback Cam Rising announced he will miss the remainder of the season, opening a 2025 return door.
Utah QB Cam Rising is eligible to return for an 8th year of football next season. At Big 12 media days, I asked him if he’ll be back in 2025? “That’s not the plan. Seven years is more than enough”

Rising, a current seventh-year senior, appears to be open to applying for an eighth season despite previously stating he was done with college football. Before the season, Rising was asked if an eighth season was possible, but Rising responded “that is not the plan…seven is enough.” However, it seems the new injury and struggles Utah has faced have led to Rising changing his mind.
Freshman quarterback and brother of NFL backup, Isaac Wilson, will start the rest of the way for the 4-2 Utah Utes football team. The Utes have lost to Arizona and Arizona State, and now will have to play the rest of the season with their starting quarterback. Rising has been injured and missed portions of the season for the past three seasons now.

The talented quarterback was once thought of as a top NFL prospect, but injuries have derailed the career of Rising. At this point, Rising could consider playing another season and competing for a championship to prolong his career.
Regardless of what decision Rising makes, the Utah Utes football staff is committed to developing Wilson for the time being. Wilson is a talented quarterback with more mobility than Rising, which could open up different possibility on offense for the Utes.
Utah Utes Quarterback Isaac Wilson Becomes Starter For Remainder of 2024 Season
With Rising going down for the remainder of the season with a lower leg injury, the door has been opened for Isaac Wilson to take over the offense.
Wilson previously played in portions of games this season, recording 830-yards passing, six touchdowns, and seven interceptions for the Utah Utes. The freshman quarterback is a dynamic player, but clearly still has youthful hurdles he needs to jump in oder to improve as a quarterback. Life comes as players fast at the collegiate level, and Wilson has learned that the hard way so far.
Wilson showed the most promise against Utah State, when the quarterback recorded 239-yards passing, three touchdowns, and one interception. The quarterback had a quarterback rating of 50.5 in his debut as a starter, but impressed with his arm strength and ability to think on the run. Despite the accuracy issues, Wilson appears to be someone who can step into the role Rising has held.
