New York Giants franchise quarterback Daniel Jones won’t practice on Wednesday as he continues to nurse a neck injury he suffered in Week 5. Jones left last Sunday’s matchup against the Miami Dolphins in the fourth quarter after appearing woozy post-sack. Backup Tyrod Taylor replaced the former first-round pick for the remainder of the contest. Jones finished the game 14-of-20 for 110 yards and no scores or interceptions. He added four carries for 24 rushing yards.
The #Giants, who are playing this week on Sunday Night Football vs. the #Bills, will be without QB Daniel Jones (neck), TE Darren Waller (groin), LT Andrew Thomas (hamstring), C John Michael Schmitz (shoulder), WR Wan’Dale Robinson (knee), OLB Azeez Ojulari (ankle) and OT Matt… pic.twitter.com/vSXFNeIFC8

The Duke product was under duress all game, getting sacked six times before exiting. Jones also missed time with a neck injury during the 2021 campaign. The dual-threat quarterback missed the final six games of that season. However, the 26-year-old said yesterday on the Up & Adams Show that the neck injury he sustained in Week 5 differs from the injury that sidelined him in 2021. In the offseason, New York inked Jones to a four-year, $160-million contract extension.
Daniel Jones: Week 7 Outlook
Head coach Brian Daboll considers Daniel Jones “day-to-day” in the leadup to this week’s tilt, but the signal caller will not practice on Wednesday. Jones has struggled mightily this season, throwing for 884 yards and two touchdowns against six interceptions over his team’s first five games. His lackluster performance comes after signing a mega contract this offseason. Jones was much better in 2022, throwing for 15 touchdowns against just six interceptions. He also averaged 5.9 yards per rush attempt that season compared to 5.2 this season. Much of Jones’ struggles stem from the offensive line. The former sixth-overall pick has gotten sacked on 15.6% of his dropbacks, nearly double last season’s percentage.
What if Daniel Jones Can’t Go?
If Jones can’t go, the Giants will turn to veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor. Taylor is 11-of-15 for 92 yards and no scores or interceptions this season. The one-time Pro-Bowler last started in 2021 for the Houston Texans.
Taylor is one of the better backup quarterbacks in the NFL, throwing 60 touchdowns against 26 interceptions in his 13-year career. His best season came in 2015 when he tossed 20 touchdowns to just six interceptions while leading the Buffalo Bills to a 7-6 record.
