General Manager Chris Ballard loves paying the Colt’s homegrown talent. Defensive lineman signed a one-year $2.1 million contract on March 12. The news was first reported by Journalist Joel A. Erickson.

Tyquan Lewis received $500,000 guaranteed and a base salary of $1.08 million. Lewis can earn up to $1.25 million with sacks, playing time, and playoff appearances.

The Colts are bringing back Tyquan Lewis on a 1-year, $2.1 million deal, per source.

    — Joel A. Erickson (@JoelAErickson) March 12, 2023

Tyquan Lewis is one of the Colt’s best defensive players. Tyquan Lewis was drafted in the second round of the 2018 NFL draft.

Lewis has recorded 70 tackles, 9.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble, and 1 interception. Lewis has played on the edge and inside on the defensive line. The Colts like Lewis’ versatility and football instincts.

Resigning Lewis is a smart move for the Colts. Lewis was having a great 2022 season before suffering a season-ending knee injury. Lewis’s career can be compared to Colts wide receiver Parris Campbell.

Ballard and Defensive Coordinator Gus Bradley like to use multiple defensive linemen. Indy’s defensive line recorded 44 sacks in 2022. Bringing back Lewis helps the Colt’s depth and relentless passion to attack quarterbacks.  Teams need to have strong offensive and defensive lines.

    Final Note

Ballard doesn’t like to make splashes in free agency. The Colts have to find a quarterback to pair with Head Coach Shane Steichen. If the Colts make any other moves I will report it for Gridiron Heroics.
