The Dallas Cowboys may no longer have to look far to find their replacement for Dan Quinn if they take into consideration Trevon Diggs’ suggestion, as the 25-year-old cornerback recently shared who he prefers to be the next Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator.
“Al Harris for DC,” wrote Diggs on his X (formerly known as Twitter) account on Friday.
But while getting an in-house replacement like Al Harris, their current defensive backs coach, for Dan Quinn is the sound choice for the Dallas Cowboys, the uncertainty over head coach Mike McCarthy’s long-term future with the squad may be the reason why this might not happen anytime soon.
Trevon Diggs and the Dallas Cowboys defense in 2023
In 2023, the Dallas Cowboys gave up just 18.5 points per game while only allowing 3,481 passing yards, which is good for fifth-best in the NFL.
As for Trevon Diggs, his 2023 campaign was cut short after he ruptured his left knee ACL during practice. He only played two regular-season games, recording four combined tackles, one interception, and one forced fumble.
Before 2023, Trevon Diggs was the NFL interceptions leader and was named to the All-Pro first team in 2021. That year, the former Alabama defensive back had 52 combined tackles and 11 interceptions, including two touchdowns.
Al Harris played a huge role in Trevon Diggs’ development
Al Harris played in the NFL for 14 years and was a two-time Pro Bowler (2007 and 2008) during his time with the Green Bay Packers. After retiring, Al Harris joined the coaching ranks of the Miami Dolphins and the Kansas City Chiefs as an intern and as a secondary/defensive assistant, respectively, before joining the Dallas Cowboys in 2020.
He has overseen the development of both Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland over the years. Under his guidance this season, DaRon Bland set a new record for most pick-sixes in a single year with five.
Al Harris is unlikely to succeed Dan Quinn, but Trevon Diggs’ endorsement should at least put him on the radar of teams that might need one.
