Charlamagne Tha God
If you listen to him speak, then you know Charlamagne Tha God has been in a lot of controversy throughout his career. With the news regarding Kaepernick, his opinion is not too crazy when you consider all of the things he has said in the past. Here is what he had to say about Colin Kaepernick’s attempt to return to the NFL:
“I wish that letter was never written. That letter was tragically sad and downright pathetic. Colin Kaepernick has let his setback become his identity, and I hate that for him. It pains me to see that man still begging to be in the league that he called racist and he compared to a plantation.”
The Jets’ radio personality did not mince his words there, as he continued to bash Kaepernick even more saying, “And I hate that he can never speak for himself. He always got somebody else speaking for him or putting out his message for him. That’s so wack to me. I wish Colin the best in all of his endeavors but just begging these same people you called racist for an opportunity is pitiful.”
Colin Kaepernick Controversy
The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback’s controversy began in the NFL when he sat and later took a knee during the National Anthem before his team’s preseason games of 2016. Kaepernick’s actions carried a lot of meaning, and it caused other players around the league and even in other sports to engage in similar silent protests.
His goal was to bring systemic racial and ethnic inequality closer to the front of American minds in the hope that such evils would be eradicated. In his own words, Colin Kaepernick said, “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses Black people and people of color.”
