Many football fans would probably agree that the Seattle Seahawks should not trade DK Metcalf, at least anytime soon.
That was what KJ Wright said on Wednesday’s episode of Seattle Sports, reacting to Mike Salk, his co-host, who made such a proposition in his column on Monday.
“I look at this receiving room, and I like it, but if you remove a DK Metcalf from this Ryan Grubb offense that’s going to be exciting and is going to put up a lot of points, I think that’s insanity,” said the Super Bowl 48 champion linebacker. “I don’t think you should let a DK Metcalf go.”
“Let’s look at the big picture: Can (Jaxon Smith-Njigba) be your No. 1 guy? Can JSN be your top option? Tyler Lockett, how much does Tyler have left to go?” added Wright.
What did Mike Salk say about DK Metcalf?
Mike Salk said in his column that the Seattle Seahawks might need to consider trading DK Metcalf, similar to what the Kansas City Chiefs did, who, by the way, just completed their NFL title defense not too long ago, despite not having any “elite” wide receivers.
When the Kansas City Chiefs traded Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins in 2022 for five draft picks, many people were surprised because Hill was one of the main reasons why they won Super Bowl 54, but it still worked out well for them.
Salk also cited the trades involving AJ Brown, Davante Adams, Amari Cooper, and Stefon Diggs to further prove his point.
And because the Seattle Seahawks are “spending more than $40 million annually” on DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, trading one of them will help them get a ton of assets in return for further retooling their roster.
DK Metcalf is arguably the best player on the Seattle Seahawks roster
DK Metcalf is fresh from another solid campaign for the Seattle Seahawks. In 2023, the Ole Miss standout recorded 66 receptions for 1,114 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. He was also selected for the Pro Bowl for the second time in his NFL career.
It’ll be interesting to see how Metcalf will do next season under Mike Macdonald, who replaced long-time head coach Pete Carroll in January.
