It’s well known that 2023 was the year of backup quarterbacks, after 66 different quarterbacks started during the season. With many seasons ending injuries and lack of full-time starters the NFL realized that having a good backup is very important. Here is the list of the top 10 going into 2024.
Top 10 Quarterbacks
#10: CJ Stroud
After having the great rookie quarterback season of all time, Stroud already seems to be a superstar. CJ helped turn the Texans around from being one of the worst teams in the NFL to winning their division. If Stroud is able to recreate last season he could be regarded as a top five or six quarterback in the league, and only in his second season.
#9: Matthew Stafford
Matthew Stafford had a very underrated 2023 season. Playing 15 games Stafford had almost 4,000 yards and 24 touchdowns. Coming off an injury filled season in 2022, Staford rebounded with a good season in 2023. He looks to be back to his 2021 self where the Rams were able to win the Super Bowl. When Stafford is healthy is certainly a top 10 QB.
#8: Aaron Rodgers
Aaron Rodgers was on the fringe of making this list as he is now 40 years old. Rodgers was hoping to start the next chapter of his career with the Jets, but his 2023 season didn’t last ling. Four plays into the season he tore his Achilles and was out for the season. Aaron hope to return in 2024 with hope for the Jets to make a run for the super bowl.
#7: Jalen Hurts
After an incredible 2022 season where he led the Eagles to the Super Bowl, Hurts took a step back in 2023. Hurts seemed like a Bonafide top 5 quarterback in the league after the 2022 season. The eagles as a whole were a little disappointing in 2023, mainly due to losing both of their coordinators. Hopefully Hurts can recover from the 2023 season and get back to being in the MVP race in 2024.
#6: Justin Herbert
Right now, Justin Herbert seems to be the definition of wasted potential. Justin Herbert seems like he could be the best quarterback in the league and always seem to not live up to it. This seems to be mainly due to the Chargers coaching and front office. Hopefully with the hire of Jim Harbaugh the Chargers can utilize Herbert and get him some weapons to succeed in 2024.
#5: Dak Prescott
Dak Prescott was the MVP frontrunner for the majority of the 2023 season. After a few bad games late in the year he fell back in the race. Dak came into the season as a borderline top 10 quarterback, Dak showed signs of MVP caliber play, but turned the ball over a lot. In 2023 Dak had a four to one touchdown to interception ratio and hope to help the Cowboys find playoff success in 2024.
#4: Lamar Jackson
Coming off his second MVP season in 2023, Lamar hopes to get the Ravens to the Super Bowl in 2024. With Jacksons legs he is the best playmaker in the NFL and coming off a great 2023 season he lands at the number four spot on the list. Lamar might not put up the passing yards that these quarterbacks do, but he makes up for it with his rushing and playmaking.
#3: Joe Burrow
Hopefully the NFL didn’t forget about Joe Burrow. After leading the Bengals to back-to-back AFC championship game appearances, Joe Burrow suffered a season ending injury in 2023. Battling a calf injury early in the season, Burrow didn’t seem himself, but once he got back to his normal self, he suffered a hand injury that ended his season. Burrow seems to be the only quarterback that can beat Mahomes, which lands him here at number three.
#2: Josh Allen
If it weren’t for Lamar JAckson, Josh Allen would be the best playmaker in the NFL. Allen is debatably the most athletically gifted players in the league. With Allens massive arm and ability to use his size and run the football, he is the kryptonite to any defense. Allens kryptonite seems to be Patrick Mahomes, as Allen can’t get past him in the playoffs to get the Super Bowl.
#1: Patrick Mahomes
There is not much to say, Patrick Mahomes is currently the best quarterback in the NFL. Until he retires it doesn’t seem like anyone is going to come close. With already winning three super bowls, it seems like Mahomes might have a chance to catch Tom Brady. After winning back-to-back Super Bowls, Mahomes is going to go for the three peat in 2024.
