The Chicago Bears director of equipment Tony Medlin was honored last Saturday night with the “Give a Hand Out to Give a Hand Up” award from the Calahan Foundation. Medlin was one of three people honored as Pastor Reginald W. Sharpe Jr. and U.S. Representative Robin Kelley also were honored during the event.
Bears chairman George H. McCaskey was there to support Medlin at the ceremony as well. Medlin discussed the honor he felt from receiving such a prestigious honor.
“I’m honored. There are so many people who are involved that make these moments happen. I’m just thankful to the McCaskey family and the Chicago Bears [for giving me] the opportunity to do the things that I do. It’s very satisfying. It just keeps reminding me of how much people appreciate what we do.”
This is an incredible honor for the Chicago Bears to boast about as Medlin has been part of the organization since 1987. He became the main person in the equipment department in 1997 and is involved with coordinating all of the equipment operations for the Chicago Bears.
What should the Chicago Bears do in the 2024 NFL draft?
The Chicago Bears have some excitement heading into the offseason as they have two first-round picks. They are currently in line to have the first and seventh picks in the NFL draft if the season were to end today. Chicago has a lot of interesting pieces but are too far out of the race to make a push for the playoffs with a 5-8 record but they are technically in the race as they are 12th in the NFC.
They have the most money available for free agency as well so they can make a difference throughout the offseason. If they land the first pick via the Carolina Panthers, they could easily trade back a few picks and still land wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. or an offensive tackle to protect the quarterback.
They likely will draft Caleb Williams with the first pick and look to move Justin Fields or just make him a backup quarterback. Either way, the team is going to be in a great spot going forward and the future is expected to be bright.
