Three Takeaways From Oregon’s Dominant Home Win Against BYU

The 25th ranked Oregon Ducks defeated the 12th ranked BYU Cougars soundly Saturday afternoon at Autzen Stadium by a score of 41-20. In fact, the final score may be closer than what much of the game felt like, as the Ducks at one point had a 38-7 lead before inserting second stringers into the game. Now three games into the season, Oregon stands at 2-1 with two very dominant wins and one ugly loss. Here are three things that this game told us about the Oregon Ducks.

This Oregon Offensive Line is Good

The Ducks ran all over BYU the entire game, with running-backs Bucky Irving and Jordan James picking up huge chunks on seemingly every carry. The Ducks averaged 4.8 yards per carry on the day and finished with 212 rushing yards total. The offensive line looked fantastic throughout, and has put in solid performances in every game this season. Even in a 49-3 loss to Georgia, the offensive line did not look super overmatched. The strength of this unit is a really good sign for Oregon as they begin conference play next weekend.

Bo Nix has found his Rhythm

After a disastrous two interception performance against the Georgia Bulldogs, Bo Nix has responded with two phenomenal games. Nix was excellent against BYU with 222 yards and 2 touchdowns and maintained complete control of the game offensively. The Oregon QB looks much more comfortable in the Oregon offense and should be able to continue to improve. Nix faces a tough task against Washington State in Pullman next Saturday, a team that has been stout on defense to start the season.

Oregon is still a good Football Team

After the Ducks 49-3 loss to start the season, many Ducks fans quickly began to lose hope and national media pundits began to write off the Ducks as any sort of quality football team. Oregon has shown how much talent the team still has with two dominant wins following that loss. With the 7th most talented roster in the country according to 247 sports, the Ducks are still very much in the Pac-12 title race. While there are still tough games ahead, a double digit win season is still very much a possibility in Eugene.
