The Los Angeles Rams have a stacked roster. The team is talented but lacks depth at pivotal positions. Quarterback is perhaps the most valuable position in football today. The Rams have a spectacular one in Matthew Stafford, but what happens if he is injured?
Injury is not a fun topic of discussion, but it is part of the game. Additionally, Stafford has an injury history. He played through injuries more often than not, but having the ease of mind that he could rest up would do wonders for the team.
Currently, the team backup is John Wolford. Wolford led the Rams to the playoffs in the final week of the 2020 season after Jared Goff got injured. However, that was against an Arizona Cardinals team that lost its quarterback, Kyler Murray. Under normal circumstances, a quarterback throwing for an interception and a 57% completion percentage is not winning football.
That is why the Rams need a quarterback who has made the playoffs as a starter. They need a guy who can take the reins in case Stafford gets injured. The question becomes: Who is available with that kind of ability?
Who should the backup quarterback be?
Cam Newton comes to mind, but he looked bad last year. There is another quarterback the Rams could look to, though. Robert Griffin.
Former #Commanders QB Robert Griffin III wants to play football again. Speaking in a recent interview, the former 2012 1st round pick said he's ready to go if he gets the call. Griffin last played for the #RavensFlock in 2020. He currently works for ESPN.

“I am ready to go right now,” he said via Christopher Williams. “I train every day (…). Yes, it is a little bit tougher when you are flying around everywhere doing stuff for TV, but when you really want something, you make it work.”
Since RG3 stayed in shape, the Rams could give him a call. Griffin was a rookie phenom in 2012. As a rookie, he led the Washington Commanders to the playoffs but tore his ACL, LCL and meniscus in that game. The injury bug bit him hard, and he never returned to that level of play.
“So, if I get that call this year, next year, or five years from now I will be ready to play,” Griffin continued.
Griffin last played in 2020. With over a year of resting his body, RG3 sounds healthy. If Stafford did get injured, having a quarterback who led a playoff run would behoove the Rams and keep their championship window wide open.
