The Texas Longhorns won a rivalry game on the road against the Texas A&M Aggies 17-7 on Saturday night. Texas will be facing the Georgia Bulldogs in Atlanta, Georgia on Saturday at 4 p.m. on ABC. The Longhorns are 11-1 this season and Georgia is 10-2.
All season long, Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian has always preached about respecting your opponents on the field and off the field. This is one of the reasons why Texas is one of the best teams in college football and is on the verge of being in the postseason for the second straight season.
Texas Longhorns Head Coach Steve Sarkisian Makes Comment On Monday To the Media
On Monday, Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian spoke to the media ahead of the Georgia Bulldogs matchup and also talked about some of the Texas A&M Aggies matchups as well. Many across college football on Saturday planted flags at the 50-yard line, but Sarkisian didn’t feel like it was appropriate to celebrate at the 50-yard line.
Steve Sarkisian said to the media:
“Didn’t think it’s right. I mean rivalries are great, but there’s a way to win it with class. We shouldn’t be on their logo. We shouldn’t be planting any flags on their logo. And whenever that day comes, I hope we’d get the same respect in return.”
He has preached the same message all season long and it is a good thing that this is the case. He wouldn’t want Texas A&M doing that to Texas next season if the Aggies were to beat the Longhorns in Austin, Texas.
Other Incidents This Weekend Across College Football
There were many incidents across the college football platform this weekend during rivalry week. The Michigan Wolverines tried to plant a Michigan flag at the 50-yard line and it ensued a brawl between the Michigan and the Ohio State Buckeyes players.
In another instance, the North Carolina State Wolfpack tried to plant the flag at the 50-yard line, and North Carolina Tar Heels players did not take exception to it. The Auburn Tigers and Alabama Crimson Tide players also scuffled and so did the Arizona State Sun Devils and Arizona Wildcats mascots.
It didn’t appear as if there were any incidents with the Longhorns and Texas A&M Aggies players or anything else for that matter. Steve Sarkisian is just trying to keep the same message across to his players that there is a way to celebrate beating rivals without planting flags or stomping on the logo at the 50-yard line.
