The Texas A&M Aggies are going through a coaching change after firing Jimbo Fisher this offseason. While Fisher wasn’t able to get a good product on the field, he was able to recruit very well. Many five-star recruits came to the Aggies and now many of them are taking advantage of the transfer portal. The exodus continues as defensive lineman LT Overton announced he is entering the transfer portal.

Texas A&M DL LT Overton Enters Transfer Portal
Overton was the number one overall recruit in the 2023 class before he reclassified to the 2022 class. Overton has been a solid run-stopper for the Aggies and has been working hard on pressuring the quarterback. He said this in a statement about entering the portal.
“After thoughtful prayer and consideration, I have decided to pursue growth and development where my skill set will be utilized by opportunities afforded through the NCAA transfer portal.
I want to thank Texas A&M University, my teammates, coaches, Aggie, Nation, and especially “Coach Terry Price” for the tremendous support and positive impact he had on my life. God bless Texas A&M, and the wonderful spirit of Aggieland. Gig’em!”
Expected But Still Hurts
Recruits leaving because of a new coach is not something that is out of the ordinary. Recruits often come to a program because of the head coach so when that person leaves, so do the players. Still, the hope was that Mike Elko could maybe keep some of the top-level talent on the roster. Elko will have his work cut out for him and is no doubt trying to recruit players out of the portal himself. The Aggies desperately want to be major players in the SEC. They thought Fisher would be able to get them there but it never happened.
The rebuild begins and new teams join the SEC next year. Can the Aggies turn the program around in 2024?
