The Texas A&M Aggies are in a year of transition. After Jimbo Fisher was fired, Mike Elko was brought in from Duke to be the next head coach. With any new coaching hire comes players leaving. After the Aggies lost a former No. 1 overall recruit to the transfer portal, safety Jardin Gilbert announced he is entering too.

Texas A&M Aggies Lose S Jardin Gilbert To Transfer Portal
2022 was Gilbert’s best season. He had 61 total tackles to go along with two interceptions and four pass breakups. In 2023, Gilbert was hampered by injuries that kept him out of the lineup. He only had five total tackles on the season. As the program goes through a coaching change, Gilbert will be one of the players who is going to try and find a new program. He still has two years of eligibility remaining.
Not Surprising But Still Hurts
This isn’t uncommon for when a new coach comes in. Players often come to a program because of a certain coach. Once that coach leaves, a lot of players leave too. Elko will have his work cut out for him in an expanded SEC and now he has to deal with players leaving. A program never wants to see players leave but at this point, Elko can’t be concerned. He and his staff will need to recruit the transfer portal and try to reload to get the Aggies back into contention.
Where will all these players end up? It has been a crazy couple of weeks and it will be interesting to see where everyone ends up after the dust settles.
