The Tennessee Titans were hoping to be able to lock up Jeffery Simmons to an extension. After cutting or trading a lot of their players in the last couple of years, the Titans finally made a decision for the long term. Simmons has signed a massive extension to stay with the Tennessee Titans.
Tennessee Titans Extend Jeffrey Simmons
The reported deal is a four-year $94 million extension. This puts him at $23.5 million annually. The two-time Pro Bowler was in the final year of his rookie contract and was looking for a new deal. He definitely has earned it. The Titans got lucky when they picked him 19th in the 2019 draft. While he hasn’t garnered national attention, he has been a dominant force on the line. Over the past two seasons, he has 16 sacks, 30 quarterback hits, 67 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, 13 passes defended, and 115 total pressures, per PFF.
Some Good News For The Titans
With so many franchise staples leaving this offseason, it has to be nice for Titans fans to see the team keeping a familiar face. The Titans have essentially entered a full rebuild but they know what positions to prioritize. The game is often won and lost in the trenches so having a dominant defensive presence is essential for any team. As the Titans look to rebuild their team, Simmons will be the centerpiece of the defense.
I’m sure teams were calling the Tennessee Titans about Jeffery Simmons. Once the fire sale of players happened teams likely smelled blood and most likely called about whether Simmons was available. However, the front office made the right decision and signed him to a long-term deal. It is unclear what the Titans will do this season but we know that Simmons will be in Tennessee for a while thanks to his new deal.
