There were plenty of questions surrounding the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after they lost to the Detroit Lions in the divisional round of the 2023 playoffs. There were doubts whether they would be able to keep their core of players that helped them make the surprise playoff run.
But to the surprise of many Buccaneers fans everywhere, they did just that and more. Their free agency was so successful that the front office is already considering throwing another legendary boat parade due to the impressive business they pulled off.
While the Bucs are busy tooting their horn, fans and analysts also think that this is arguably the best free agency the Buccaneers have ever had in its history.
Analyst argues the Tampa Bay Buccaneers just had their best free agency
Matt Matera of Pewter Report couldn’t stop gushing over how well Jason Licht handled the business side of things to keep all of their key players beyond this season.
You could feel how giddy he is with the way he’s writing about this free agency:
It’s unprecedented for most teams to bring back their starting quarterback, best wide receiver, best inside linebacker, keep an All-Pro safety with plans to sign him to an extension this summer, and also hold onto a kicker that hit over 93% of his field goals last season. But that’s exactly what Licht and the Bucs have done.
Pulling that off is one thing, but the Bucs signing those players to very reasonable contracts is another.
Every important free-agent target wanted to be a Buc
While Licht should be credited for the savvy piece of business he just pulled off, it’s also important to remember that the players they targeted also wanted to stay within the team.
Mike Evans, who was long considering leaving the team before this season, immediately piped down after experiencing life with Baker Mayfield.
Mayfield is glad that he got his money and the support of the team that wanted him to be there.
Antoine Winfield Jr. is currently on a franchise tag, but there’s no way the team would let their best safety leave in the following offseason.
Even their new acquisition of Jason Whitehead will provide additional protection against passes. He will also probably love life in Tampa.
Everything is going swimmingly for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Now, they can focus on dominating the NFC South and make an incredible run for the Lombardi.
