The news is a surprise, seeing as Evans signed this deal on March 4th, only 12 days prior.
This is correct, though the new version of the Evans contract is what always made sense from a cap standpoint. Original was framed for non-cap accounting purposes, just in terms of whether money was paid out in 2023 league year vs. 2024. https://t.co/DrRDDuhVu4

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Legend
Mike Evans is undoubtedly a Bucs legend. When free agency hit, he was set to test the open market but quickly decided to stay in Tampa Bay.
According to the Bucs team website, “Future Hall of Fame wide receiver Mike Evans will continue his illustrious career in Tampa Bay. On Friday, Evans officially signed a two-year contract extension with the Buccaneers. His deal became the team’s first step during free agency in retaining a key cog of the squad that won a third-straight NFC South crown in 2023.”
Evans is the Bucs all-time leader in receptions (762), receiving yards (11,680), touchdown receptions (94), total touchdowns (95) and 100-yard receiving games (36). He ranks second in points scored (578) and is 10th in games played (154) and fifth in games started (153).
His 94 touchdown catches rank 13th in league history and second among active players behind Raiders’ Davante Adams (95).
In nine postseason games, he has added 45 catches for 709 yards, five touchdowns, and four 100-yard receiving games.
Mike Evans’ Quarterback
Evans also stated he wanted Baker Mayfield to return to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Tampa Bay and quarterback Baker Mayfield have agreed to terms on a three-year, $100 million contract worth up to $115 million in incentives and $50 million guaranteed, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport.
Baker has had a career resurgence with the Bucs, which surprised the NFL. After Tom Brady retired, Mayfield seemed to be a “fill-in” quarterback until they found something better. Baker’s play elevated him to more than just a fill-in.
Both of these vital Buccaneers returning in 2024 give stability and hope to fans. Hopefully, they can continue to grow together and make another playoff run.
