Geno Smith and the Seattle Seahawks defeated the New York Giants on Monday night. There was a scary moment when Smith went down with an injury after a tackle by Isaiah Simmons. Smith was not happy about the hit and ripped Simmons after the game.
Geno Smith Rips Isaiah Simmons Over Dirty Tackle
Simmons dragged Smith down from behind on a scramble in the second quarter. While Smith ultimately did return to the game, he didn’t appreciate the hit.
“I just don’t respect that type of stuff. There’s no need for that type of stuff. It’s a hard fought game out there, we’re all battling, but there’s no need to take shots at guys running out of bounds on the sideline.”
Smith’s biggest issue was that he was clearly going out of bounds and tackling him was unnecessary. The Seahawks’ season and Smith’s career have very different trajectories if the quarterback were to be injured. It was fortunate that the quarterback was okay and could return to finish the game.
Resurgent Seahawks
Week 1 had a lot of people worried. After losing to the Rams, many started to prematurely hit the panic button. The team has responded with three straight wins with last night being in dominating fashion. 11 sacks and a 97-yard pick-six was the story of the game as Daniel Jones and the Giants offense could get nothing going. San Francisco looks like the class of the division but Seattle is not far behind. This team is going to be a tough out in the playoffs if they end up making it.
Ultimately, the Geno Smith-Isaiah Simmons play will go down as nothing. It seems that Smith avoided long-term injury and is ready to get this team back to the playoffs.
