An NFL insider recently wrote they think the Denver Broncos have a slim chance of signing future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady in the 2024 offseason. The Broncos will have limited options at their disposal this offseason as they intend to part ways with Russell Wilson before next season.
The Broncos have won too many games to select one of the top quarterback prospects in the 2024 NFL Draft. The money they owe Wilson after cutting him will hamper their salary cap for the next two years.
Tom Brady named a possible QB option for the Denver Broncos
Mike Florio with NBC Sports floated a few possibilities for the Broncos at quarterback next year. He thinks they could use Jarrett Sitdman as a bridge quarterback for a rookie they pick in April. Or they could sign a veteran quarterback out of retirement:
“Whatever they do, they’ll want someone who can run Sean Payton’s offense, the way Payton wants it to be run. And Payton will keep looking until he gets the quarterback he wants.
Whoever it might be. For now, all we know is that it won’t be Russell Wilson.
And, yes, two years ago Payton wanted Tom Brady. While the chances of Brady unretiring to join the Broncos are very, very, very small, they were determined to partner up in 2022, with the Dolphins.”
Florio is referring to the Dolphins’ tampering fiasco that cost them a first-round pick in 2023. The Dolphins were attempting to connect Payton and Brady in Miami.
Brady is free to join the Broncos this offseason if the 46-year-old quarterback wishes, unlike when he was under contract for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2022. He’s still not a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders.
Would Brady team up with Payton two seasons later? It doesn’t seem likely, as an aging Brady has been able to stay retired in 2023. But if Brady gets bored next spring, the Broncos could do much worse for a bridge quarterback to help groom a rookie during the 2024 season.
