New York Jets players showed their displeasure with Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton ahead of their Week 5 matchup Sunday. The 1-3 teams were fighting not only to stay in the playoff chase after disappointing starts to the season, but they were playing for their coach’s honor.
Payton made major headlines this summer when he attacked Jets offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett. Hackett was fired from the Denver head coaching job last season after a 4-11 start. Payton ridiculed Hackett for how he ran the team and said he might have performed one of the worst coaching jobs in league history.
Those comments had NFL fans marking their calendar for the Week 5 matchup. Unfortunately, Aaron Rodgers’ Achilles injury has rendered the Jets uncompetitive. And Payton hasn’t been the savior he or the Broncos thought he’d be.

But the Jets’ poor start to the regular season hasn’t made them forget Payton’s comments. Per video posted by Nikki Edwards of Yahoo Sports, several Jets players, including tight end C.J. Uzomah, referenced Payton in their pregame walkout. They claimed Payton made the game personal and chanted profanity-laced statements in his direction.
The Jets players vowed to win the game for Hackett.

The afternoon game is still an intriguing contest despite the 1-3 records. The loser will all but be knocked out of the AFC playoff hunt. The winner will certainly get to make comments about the team’s coaching staff.
