The Denver Broncos were recently named in one trade proposal that would make he’d coach Sean Payton look even more incompetent in his first season with the team. Payton was humiliated after the Broncos 70-20 loss to the Miami Dolphins in Week 3.
Payton’s winless Broncos have one more chance to notch a win in Week 4 against the also winless Chicago Bears before they take on the New York Jets in Week 5.
Many readers will remember Payton made harsh statements this summer about his predecessor, Nathaniel Hackett’s, regime in Denver last season. (Hackett is the offensive coordinator for the Jets this season.) Payton claimed Hackett might have turned in the worst coaching job in the league’s history last season.
Payton has followed up those comments by going 0-3, including the 50-point loss to the Dolphins.
Would the Denver Broncos trade an OT to the New York Jets?
Kristopher Knox with Bleacher Report named the Jets a potential trade partner for All-Pro Broncos offensive tackle Garett Bolles. After the Broncos blowout in Week 3, Boles said he’s tired of losing in Denver. Knox wrote that Bolles could use a change in scenery, and the Jets, who need offensive tackle help, would be a perfect spot for him:
“The Broncos don’t appear to be any better under Sean Payton than they were under Nathaniel Hackett a year ago, and it may be time for them to start thinking about a rebuild.
Bolles is under contract through 2024, but moving him could allow Denver to recoup some of the draft capital it used to acquire Payton and Russell Wilson….
The New York Jets might also want to consider Bolles after placing Duane Brown on injured reserve with a hip injury.”
Trade proposal:
- Jets receive Garett Bolles
- Broncos receive a 2024 third-round pick
Sean Payton’s could score another defeat
Trading Bolles before the deadline would be another humiliation for Payton. The Broncos could very well be 0-5 after playing the Jets in the second weekend of October. If the Broncos decide to be sellers and trade Bolles to Nathaniel Hackett’s offense at the deadline, Payton will have lost another point of pride after his offseason comments.
Bolles hasn’t had a great start to the 2023 season. But he’d assuredly be an upgrade for whatever the Jets are going with. The Jets desperately need offensive line help.
Bolles could keep the Jets’ postseason hopes alive if better blocking can open up lanes in the running game and allow Zach Wilson or another quarterback to have time in the pocket.
