The Los Angeles Chargers have been very busy looking for a new head coach for the 2024 season with many elite coaches rumored to be candidates for the job. Now, legendary Seattle Seahawks former coach Pete Carroll is making a push to get the job for the Chargers.
While it appears that the national champion head coach Jim Harbaugh is the front runner to land the job, Carroll is trying to put himself in that conversation. According to ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio, Carroll “is making a behind-the-scenes push for consideration” to be the Chargers next head coach.
Los Angeles Chargers Are Hottest Spot For Coaching Candidates
Carroll has had a crazy few weeks as it was announced earlier this month that Carroll was out as head coach after an amazing after 14 seasons, 10 playoff appearances and one Super Bowl title, with another Super Bowl appearance. The Seahawks claimed that Carroll would remain with the franchise in some other capacity but not as the head coach.
The Seahawks owner Jody Allen made a public statement about the move saying:
“After thoughtful meetings and careful consideration for the best interest of the franchise.”
While they claimed that Carroll would remain with the team, many reports have come out saying how Carroll is not done coaching and may want to continue somewhere else.
Snoop Dogg Reports On Pete Carroll
Famous artist Snoop Dogg, and friend of coach Pete Carroll did some reporting on the situation. He revealed to Fox Sports that the former Seahawks head coach “wanted to go to the Chargers.” The 72 year old coach indicated earlier this month that he wants to coach still, and now Snoop is saying that the most interesting job for the legendary coach would be with the Chargers.
He was further quoted talking about how even though he wants the job he may not get as there are many elite coaches being interviewed for the job in addition to Carroll, like Harbaugh and former Tennessee Titans coach Mike Vrabel. Snoop was quoted saying:
“That’s what he wanted,” Snoop said. “But I don’t know if they want him.”
We will have to see if there is enough mutual interest for the Chargers because according to Snoop there is major interest coming from Pete Carroll.
Los Angeles Chargers Interviews
The Chargers have conducted many interviews and so far Pete Carroll is not one of them, but that can change. Carroll was quoted about wanting to continue coaching earlier in the month saying:
“I don’t know. I’ve got plenty of energy for it and thought and willingness but I can’t imagine that there’s a place that’s the right one,” Carroll said when asked if he will coach again per Maura Dooley of Seattle Sports. “I don’t know. I’m open to everything but I’m not holding my breath on that.”
So far the interviews have included: Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris, Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel are among those to have interviewed for the position.
Now is it being reported by NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, that the Chargers and Jim Harbaugh are in very serious talks for him to be the next head coach of the team. He was quoted saying they are in “striking distance” of a deal to make him the next head coach, so it seems like Carroll landing the job is a long shot.
