Bill Belichick and the Atlanta Falcons were in deep talks for the legendary ex New England Patriot to become the next head coach for the Falcons in 2024. The legendary head coach who was in New England for 24 seasons is a free agent for the first time. He had two interviews with the Falcons and all signs were pointing to him being the coach but this week all those talks have seemed to lose momentum.
Now it is looking like Belichick getting hired is no where near a sure thing. The Athletic’s Josh Kendall reported that the talks between the coach and the Falcons saying:
“It has lost momentum in the past week” and that the Falcons aren’t approaching the situation with a “Belichick or bust” mentality.
Atlanta Falcons Are Not All In On Bill Belichick
It was looking like all signs were pointing to Belichick being the new Falcons head coach in 2024 and now those talks are cooling down as the Falcons have been conducting many interviews for the job. it was reported by Bleacher Report earlier this week saying:
“The 71-year-old reportedly dined with team owner Arthur Blank, with CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones adding that Blank “desperately” wants the eight-time Super Bowl champion. That fed into one belief this would be the owner’s best opportunity to get the kind of marquee coach he has long coveted.”
That is not stopping Blank and the Falcons from exploring all its options for next season however. Now it has been reported that the team is reportedly planning to have a second interview with Michigan national champion head coach Jim Harbaugh this week, in addition to Houston Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik, Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald. All of these candidates are still in the running to be the next head coach.
While Harbaugh may be out as it appears he is getting close to a deal with the Chargers, that still leaves many candidates competing with Belichick for the job.
Bill Belichick Is Only In Talks With The Atlanta Falcons
It appears that no other teams are in the running for the all time coach except for the Falcons, and now many other teams are signing their guys. It would be insane, but Belichick may not have a job next season with the way things are looking.
Both the Las Vegas Raiders and Tennessee Titans are already off the board not that they had any interest in Belichick in the first place. The Raiders named Antonio Pierce as the permanent replacement for Josh McDaniels, while the Titans are expected to hire Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
The Dallas Cowboys are bringing back McCarthy and it spears the Philadelphia Eagles are bringing back Nick Sirianni. It seems like Belichick has put all his eggs in the Falcons basket, and now with the talks losing momentum, will we see Belichick coaching in the 2024 season.
