Are the New England Patriots really firing Bill Belichick after the 2023 season? Well, contrary to recent reports, no decision has been made with regards to that.
Belichick’s job status has been a major talking point throughout the campaign amid the Patriots’ struggles. It only intensified after the team was eliminated from playoff contention following a 3-10 record through Week 14.
After that, a report emerged claiming that Belichick’s future has already been decided for some time now, with Patriots insider Tom Curran saying that the New England franchise would part ways with the legendary coach at the end of the season.
“When they came out of Germany, conversations I had that week made it very clear that a decision was made,” Curran said. “They were going to play out the string, and at the end of the year there would be a parting of the ways, for a variety of reasons.”
However, many expressed doubts about the accuracy of the report. And now, renowned NFL newsbreaker Ian Rapoport further dispelled the talks that Belichick’s firing is a foregone conclusion, stating in his latest report that nothing has been decided so far.
“The fate of Bill Belichick as head coach of the New England Patriots has not yet been decided,” Rapoport wrote. “While the expectation is that a decision on his future will play out over the next month, sources also say it could take longer than that.”
Sure enough, it doesn’t mean that the New England Patriots will keep Bill Belichick. What Rapoport is saying is that the rumors about a decision has been made on the coach’s job status isn’t entirely accurate.
Perhaps the Patriots want to spend more time in the offseason assessing their current roster and whether Belichick is still the right man for the job. While he has been the most successful coach in New England’s history, the fact of the matter is his magic isn’t working with the current team.
Rob Gronkowski, Julian Edelman Not Buying Bill Belichick’s New England Patriots Rumors
As mentioned, many have expressed doubt about the rumors that the New England Patriots have already decided to fire Bill Belichick. Among those are former Pats Rob Gronkowsli and Julian Edelman.
In a recent appearance on the Up & Adams Show, the two expressed their belief that it’s “not 100 percent done.”

It won’t be surprising if the Patriots do end up moving on from Bill Belichick. Their lack of success since Tom Brady’s departure has been a telling sign that they need a change.
Nonetheless, it’s hard to question if the Patriots end up keeping the coach and making roster changes instead considering the success they had with him.
Whatever the case may be, there could be significant changes in New England come 2024.
